DHX MEDIA AND WALKER PRODUCTIONS WIN CBBC COMMISSION FOR NEW LIVE ACTION SERIES HANK ZIPZER, TO BE PRODUCED BY KINDLE ENTERTAINMENT

DHX Media to handle worldwide distribution

Halifax, NS – 19 September 2013 – DHX Media, a leading independent creator, producer, distributor and licensor of children’s entertainment content, and Walker Productions, a global division of the Walker Books Group, together with the BAFTA award winning UK’s Kindle Entertainment, have won a CBBC commission for Hank Zipzer, a brand new comedy drama series featuring multi-award winning actor Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler.

This is a live-action comedy with vibrant animation used to bring Hank’s imagination to life. Hank Zipzer is inspired by the book series Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever, written by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver and published by Walker Books.

Fast paced and funny, the series will follow 12-year-old Henry ‘Hank’ Zipzer, a smart and resourceful boy with a unique perspective on the world.  Hank has dyslexia and when problems arise he deals with them in a way no-one else would – putting him on a direct collision course with his teachers and parents, who don’t seem to appreciate his latest scheme as much as he thought they would…But, Hank always remains positive and convinced that the next big plan will deliver – after all, tomorrow is another day!

CBBC Drama’s Executive Producer, Independents, Sue Nott said: “The stories are inspired by the true life experiences of Henry Winkler and how he felt growing up with dyslexia.  At CBBC we try to reflect the lives of children back at them and Hank Zipzer shows that achievement comes in all shapes and sizes – and it’s set to be very funny too!”

Steven DeNure, President and COO at DHX Media, added: “There is a wealth of creative talent behind this show – our first collaboration with Walker Productions and Kindle Entertainment – and this promises to bring Henry’s vision to the screen in all its comedic glory.  We anticipate a great deal of international interest.”

Executive producers on the series are Steven DeNure (DHX Media) Anne Brogan (Kindle Entertainment), Helen McAleer (Walker Productions), Sue Nott (CBBC) and Hugo Heppell (Screen Yorkshire). DHX Media will handle international sales for the 13 x 30 minute children’s show which will air on CBBC early next year.
