Toronto, ON – 2 December 2010 – DHX Media, a leading international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, has signed a hat trick of deals to bring much-anticipated new preschool show Rastamouse to new international territories. In Australia, ABC TV has acquired broadcast rights with ABC Commercial snapping up home video rights to all 52×11’ episodes of the CBeebies-commissioned stop-motion animated series, which is produced by Three Stones Media with Dinamo Productions and Little Roots.

In further deals, Canal+ (MiniMini) has acquired TV rights in Poland and HOP! has picked up all available episodes for Israel following the successful launch of the series at MIPCOM. DHX Media represents worldwide television rights (excluding UK) and worldwide l&m rights to the property which will launch in the UK on CBeebies in the first quarter of next year.

Josh Scherba, SVP Distribution at DHX Media, said: “Rastamouse is a stand out show with strong international potential in both broadcast and consumer products. We’re focused on taking the property into new markets and building on the exceptional response we had from international buyers to the property at MIPCOM.”

Greg Boardman, Executive Producer at The Rastamouse Company, added: “The sales Rastamouse has achieved to these international territories are fantastic. It’s clear there is a space in the kids market for a show like Rastamouse – which has heart, humour and fun at its very core. We look forward to building the brand with our partner DHX as the programme is picked up worldwide.”

Based on the books by Michael De Souza and Genevieve Webster, Rastamouse is a show with positivity and fun at its core. The main character, Rastamouse, together with Scratchy and Zoomer, make up the Easy Crew; a crime-fighting, mystery-solving, special agent, reggae band. Redemption not retribution is their motto, as the group set about helping the baddy rebuild their life ‘making a bad ting good’.
